Lithium

Lithium, a particular chemical element is a soft as well as silvery-white alkali metal. Under standard premises, it works as the lightest solid element as well as lightest metal. Similar to all alkali metals, it is extremely flammable & reactive and is kept in mineral oil. The chemical never fall out freely in nature, except in ionic compounds. The compound has various industrial applications, including heat-resistant glass, ceramics, flux accumulative for iron etc. Similar to some other alkali metals, Lithium has an electron of single valency. Working as a good heat & electricity conductor, it is a highly reactive element.

Applications:

 

  • Ceramics and glass: Widely utilized as a flux for the processing of silica, making reduction in the melting point as well as viscosity of the material.
  • Electrical and electronics: Crucial component of battery electrodes and electrolytes, on account of its advanced electrode potential.
  • Lubricating greases: The third most ordinary utilization is in greases.
  • Metallurgy: Utilized as an additive to ceaseless casting mould flux slags where it efficiently increases the liquidity.
